The Perfect Fit
North Coast Calvary Chapel moves into new home
Carlsbad, Ca, June 24, 2008—Churches, like shoes, need to fit properly. For North Coast Calvary Chapel (NCCC) keeping the right fit has been about as easy as keeping a teenager in skate shoes. It’s not the wear and tear, so much as the nonstop growth that puts on the squeeze. But in July 2008, NCCC will move into a new home.
“We’re looking forward to some elbow room and parking spaces,” one congregant said, hoping the size fits for awhile. NCCC began as a Bible study in a home and quickly outgrew that house. They tried on Encinitas YMCA, Vulcan Center, and San Dieguito High School before purchasing their spot in the Ralph’s Shopping Center on Avenida Encinas in Carlsbad. That fit for 16 years, but now they are moving on.
Desiring to remain on the coast they purchased 13 developable acres at the corner of Poinsettia Lane and Aviara Parkway. Now they’re slipping into their Tuscan designed facility. “Buildings surround a central plaza to create a common meeting place and a sense of community,” said Senior Pastor Mark Foreman. And they are adding a preschool, which already has a healthy enrollment for the fall.
Outgrowing the new building is already on the cobbler’s bench. Used to crowding, the congregation has become adept at taking “church” outside of the building and into the city. The church’s motto is “To live in Christ and to live out Christ.” And even though they just spent 18 months hammering and roofing, they picture themselves as a church without walls. "We are thankful for the new building but ultimately the church is the people, not the buildings. We are to be transformed people who transform our world. These facilities will aid us in worship and teaching but ultimately the people will reflect the love of Jesus to our community in deeds that improve our community." Pastor expressed his sincere thanks to the city and to the surrounding neighborhoods for their cooperation.
Construction is nearly complete with doors opening in July 2008. To celebrate their grand opening, they will hold an Open House Week (July 7-11) with open house hours each night from 5-7:00 pm and a different special event each night, all open to the community.
