Welcome to Coast Kids Preschool
Carlsbad, CA
The mission of Coast Kids Preschool is to provide children in our community with the opportunities to grow physically, cognitively, socially/emotionally, and spiritually by offering a high-quality and developmentally appropriate program that is built upon a partnership between the child, teacher, and family.
About Us
A strong team is key to a successful preschool.
All of our staff are committed Christians and are experienced Early Childhood educators.
Each of our staff meets, and in many cases exceeds, the requirements set by the State Licensing Department and all staff are certified in CPR and First Aid.
Our staff members have undergone an extensive background check. We believe it is both a privilege and a responsibility to care for and nurture your child
“Jesus grew in stature and in wisdom and in favor with men and God.” (Luke 2:52)
Coast Kids is a Play and Faith based preschool. Coast Kids is a ministry of North Coast Calvary Chapel. We use many different teaching styles and techniques as our blueprint for planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate program. Our Curriculum incorporates careful attention to the design of the environment with a focus on interest areas, developmentally appropriate practices, purposeful planning, and accurate assessment of learning outcomes. Our curriculum includes the content areas – literacy, math, science, social studies, and the arts.
Along with using our different curriculum methods as a framework, we draw lessons from The Beginners Bible. We are able to integrate developmentally appropriate activities with spiritual development. This is designed to help children make faith connections. We verbalize our faith as children work and play. Looking at earthworms in a worm house is not just a science lesson. It is an opportunity to talk about how all of God’s creation is good.
Two’s Classrooms Overview
Our toddler classrooms bridge the gap between infancy and growing independence by providing meaningful, faith-filled learning experiences that support children as they grow in self-care, self-expression, and confidence. We recognize this stage as one of rapid development and wonder, and our dedicated team is committed to lovingly guiding your child through it, with Christ at the center of all we do.
As the foundation of their learning journey, our toddler program nurtures a love for learning and curiosity through a Christian lens. We focus on developing communication skills, emotional growth, and spiritual understanding through age-appropriate activities and hands-on exploration. Children are encouraged to see God’s goodness in everyday moments, friendships, and the world around them.
Each day includes a special time for classroom prayer, where children learn to talk to God, give thanks, and pray for others in simple, meaningful ways. We aim to instill core biblical values such as kindness, patience, love, and joy, helping little ones build their first understanding of Gods word.
Daily activities include sensory play, arts and crafts, block building, pretend play, music and movement, gross motor exploration outdoors, shape sorting, puzzles, water play, story time, and early literacy development—all rooted in love, purpose, and faith. Weather permitting, the Two’s classroom enjoys two 20-minute outdoor sessions each day.
Preschool Classrooms Overview
Our preschool classrooms continue to build on the strong foundation developed in the earlier years, helping children grow in their social, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual development. With Christ as our cornerstone, we support each child as they gain confidence, curiosity, and independence through purposeful learning and meaningful relationships.
The goal of our preschool program is to nurture the whole child by focusing on key areas of development: language and literacy, early math and science exploration, creative expression through art and music, physical growth, and social-emotional skills—all through a biblical worldview. Our engaging, hands-on curriculum is thoughtfully designed to meet the developmental needs of preschool-aged children, while also pointing them toward God’s truth and love.
Each day includes a designated time for prayer, where children learn to connect with God through gratitude, worship, and lifting others up. Faith-based character traits such as kindness, honesty, patience, and compassion are modeled and encouraged in daily classroom life.
Preschool classroom activities include:
- Circle Time with prayer, Bible stories, and group discussion
- Learning Centers that support hands-on discovery and play
- Language & Literacy development through stories, conversation, and pre-writing
- Math & Science exploration through sorting, counting, measuring, and observing
- Creative Arts & Music for self-expression and worship
- Outdoor Exploration & Physical Development through play and movement
- Social-Emotional Learning that builds friendships, empathy, and resilience
Pre-Kindergarten Classroom Overview
Our pre-kindergarten classroom is designed to prepare children for a confident and successful transition into kindergarten and beyond. Rooted in both academic excellence and a Christ-centered approach, this program builds on previously developed skills while deepening children’s understanding, independence, and faith.
The focus of our pre-kindergarten program is to strengthen school readiness by nurturing academic, social, emotional, and spiritual growth. Children continue to grow in language and literacy, early math concepts, problem-solving, self-regulation, and peer relationships, all within a supportive and engaging environment that reflects God’s love.
Each day includes a dedicated time for prayer and Bible learning, encouraging children to grow in their relationship with God and apply biblical values such as respect, integrity, and perseverance in their daily interactions.
Pre-kindergarten activities include:
- Letter Recognition, phonics games, and early writing practice
- Storytelling & Read-Alouds to develop comprehension and a love for reading
- Rhyming & Word Play for phonemic awareness
- Math Readiness with counting, sorting, patterning, and simple addition

Chapel plays a significant role in the lives of our children, offering opportunities for spiritual growth, character development, and a strong sense of community. It is a space where children can connect with their faith, learn moral values, and experience the joy of belonging within a supportive environment.
Spiritual growth and moral development begin by watching and learning from the adults around them. At Coast Kids, we believe these moments are most meaningful when modeled by our teachers, through their words, actions, and love for the Lord.
Chapel is held every other week on Thursdays and Fridays at 11:30 AM here at Coast Kids Preschool. It’s a special time where we come together as a school community to enjoy fellowship, worship, music, movement, prayer, and to learn more about the Lord.
Parents are always welcome—the balcony is reserved just for them!
“Many parents are concerned about what their children will learn in preschool. They want their children to enjoy preschool, but also to be well prepared for the more formal environments of kindergarten and elementary school.
The good news is that the best preschool teaching practices make the most of children’s natural inclination to play. What’s more, you don’t have to choose between academic learning and enjoyable play experiences for your children. The idea that you must make a choice is in part due to different definitions. When some people talk about academics, they may be thinking specifically of teaching children their letters and sounds, numbers, colors, shapes, and so on. Our definition of academics is much broader.
Academics should address such questions as:
How do children become literate?
How do children learn to think mathematically and like scientists?
How do children learn about the world around them?
How do children create through the arts and learn to think of themselves as creative problem-solvers?
Almost all current research on young children clearly indicates that when children play, they learn, and they learn social, emotional, and physical skills as well as academic content. Our view–that a quality preschool program is one that promotes learning through rich play experiences–is based on that research.”
It is very important to us that, when you pick up your child and ask what they did today, their first response is “I played”. All of our teachers have been trained to creatively mold play situations so that they lead to the acquisition of specific skills.

Our Director
My name is Elisabeth Hagen…or as most people know me as Liz. Liz has been an Early Childhood Center Director for more than 15 years, with experiences including nonprofit religious schools, private preschools, and corporate preschools. As a college athlete, Liz earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from San Diego Christian College and her master’s degree from Ashford University in Education.
Liz serves on the Board with Church Related Early Childhood Education Fellowship in Southern California, providing inspiration, information, and a sense of community for church related early childhood professionals.
At the core of who I am, and all I’ve done in ministry, is my beloved family. My husband Trevor and I were married in Hawaii in 2010. We share two beautiful sons Kyllian and Kayden. We all have enjoyed worshipping here at North Coast Calvary since 2021.
My passion is developing positive relationships within the community, working with students and families in reaching new academic, social, and spiritual milestones, supporting teachers in reaching their greatest potential and fostering a positive school culture by strengthening the connection between school, church, and home.
It’s a privilege and joy to lead Coast Kids Preschool. Thank you for welcoming me and my family into this sacred calling of following Jesus together.
I look forward to meeting each of you and learning how I can best support you throughout this school year and many more to come.
